I met Fred for the first time in her sun-drenched studio, sipping a cup of matcha tea. She told me aout her background, her technique, her passion for bone china and other materials. After several collaborations with Jean-François D'Or and Nathalie Dewez, she launched her first solo project: she wanted to create everyday objects that could be both functional and refined. And in the process, she fell in love with ceramics.
When she started working in Porcepolis studio, she discovered porcelain, a beautiful yet fragile and delicate material. She began to study the working techniques and learn about the qualities and peculiarities of porcelain. Her mission was to master the techniques to perfection and be able to make the best use of this beautiful material.
In 2015, she launched the "Mood cups" project and the same year she introduced it at Salone del Mobile in Milan. Steady, Dynamic, Audacious: she chooses a word for each cup to express the mood or personality of the person who will sip tea or coffee from it. Steady before a work meeting or Relax to sit back and take a break…
The cups are thin, almost translucent yet resistant and high-quality.
Her unbridled passion and curiosity make her want to explore and discover more, push the limits of her creativity and skills. "There's still so much to do", she says. Her next projects are a collection of crockery, ceramic stools, porcelain cabinets… Her imagination is vast and she bursts with new ideas.
Soon, she will head to China to meet with local ceramists and studio potters and learn new techniques, discover new materials and polish her skills. We can't wait to meet her again!
